HelloFresh has been active in the US since 2012 and delivers nationwide in the US (with the exception of AK and HI) since 2014. HelloFresh works with a team of in-house dietitians to provide healthy recipes to their customers. The company focuses on high quality proteins and ships only sustainable seafood and antibiotic-free chicken.

Subscribers can choose from a great variety of weekly recipes to put their box together for the following 7 days. The promise of wild-caught fish from along the East Coast might tempt some fish lovers, while wine enthusiasts can take advantage of the wine pairing option to complement their HelloFresh meals.

Meal Plans

HelloFresh offers a total of three customizable plans: Classic, Veggie and Family. The classic plan includes the greatest variety of meals integrating meat and fish along with seasonal produce, while the veggie plan relies on plant-based proteins and grains. Both Classic and Veggie options average between 500 to 800 calories and cost $9.99 per serving. The family box is designed for busy parents and children and comes with a lower price tag of $8.79 per serving.

Within each plan, you can also set the number of people you would be cooking for (2-4 people), as well as the number of times you would like to cook on a given week (2-4 meals) to suit the needs of your household. While price per serving remains the same, total weekly prices range accordingly from $59.94 for a 3-meal Classic plan for two, to $119.88 for a 3-meal Veggie plan for four.

The good news is that the shipping is always free, though the service is only available across the continental US at the moment. Deliveries typically take place between 8am and 8pm on Wednesdays, Thursdays or Fridays for all customers, but a 7 days/week delivery is available in specific areas.

Packaging and recipes

Each box comes with high quality, locally sourced products and straightforward step-by-step recipes: everything you need to craft balanced, wholesome meals. These are developed by chefs and dietitians and fall into categories like quick and easy, family-friendly or low calorie. The recipes integrate a range of influences and come from a variety of world cuisines: from Thai to French, from Latin American to Chinese.

For easy cooking and minimal food waste, HelloFresh meal kits feature a pre-measured amount of ingredients you need to make each dish. The specially designed packaging ensures that the edibles stay cool and fresh during the delivery, regardless of the season. Most of the eco-friendly packaging materials can also be reused or recycled. For instance, the plant-based insulation material, as well as the HelloFresh boxes themselves, are bio-degradable. The non-toxic ice packs can be reused or simply emptied down the drain.

Customer service

HelloFresh subscribers can reach the customer service directly by calling, emailing or live-chatting online. However, you can also choose meals and administer your account online or via app. It is possible to pause and resume the service up to five days before the next delivery, for example if you are out of town. You can also switch to a different plan or cancel your subscription altogether in the members area at any time.
